CONNOR’S STORY

As we’ve just started our For Time course with a new group of participants, we’re thrilled to share the inspiring journey of Connor, a former member on the course.

‘It’s like you really begin to understand what it is to have a good quality community around you and be a part of that, it gives you an identity, something to be proud of’ – Connor, reflecting on his time as a participant on For Time.

On Friday 25th October, Connor culminated a journey which he had started on For Time at HMP The Mount, 18 months previously, by competing at HYROX Birmingham in the Men’s Pro Division.

On the day, he came 4th, missing out on qualification for the World Championships by one position – yet this time the placing did not matter. Being there, Connor had already won. Won the trust of people within the criminal justice system, won the respect of fellow competitors, and won the admiration of his peers.

Connor has also won away from the roxzone – he is a Vertical Window Cleaning Technician at the Television Centre, a job secured through our dedicated partners Principle Cleaning Services. He loves the job, lives nearby and has a strong social network of positive pro-social people. In his own words: ‘I really am living a brand new life, away from crime with a totally different identity.’

Connor is eyeing Manchester in January 2025 to clinch a qualifying spot for the World Championships and we certainly aren’t betting against him.
